Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. LocalPDF runs entirely in your browser: files are read from your disk, processed on your device and saved straight back. Nothing is sent to a server, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with your internet connection switched off.
Is a signature added this way legally binding?
In many places, including under the US ESIGN Act and the EU’s eIDAS regulation, a signature placed on a document like this is a valid electronic signature for most everyday agreements. Some documents need a certificate-based digital signature or ink on paper instead. If you’re not sure, ask whoever sent you the document.
Where is my saved signature kept?
If you tick “Remember on this device”, it’s kept in this browser’s storage on your device, and nowhere else. It’s never uploaded, and you can forget it at any time.
Will signing break a digital signature already in the PDF?
No. Your additions are written as an update appended to the end of the file, so the original bytes, and any digital signature over them, stay exactly as they were. PDF readers will note that the document was changed after it was signed, which is expected.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Encrypted PDFs are turned away with a message rather than producing a broken file. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first, then try again.
